While it doesn't crack the top 10 on the activity charts, Killing Floor 2 has several thousand people playing daily on Steam, so making sure that potential customers on Epic get to enjoy the full experience means keeping the playerbase together as a larger whole.
Uniting their player bases seems like a must-have feature, especially for a game with an entrenched audience on its original platform. Over on Steam, the devs have already started working on getting Epic and Steam servers to work together. Tripwire's Epic launch problems could be tied to trying to tie the game's two PC versions together. Thankfully, Tripwire is on the case, promising a fix sometime early next week at the latest. Besides only being able to play solo, some gamers aren't even getting that far, reporting crashes whenever they try to launch the game. Most issues seemingly boil down to the game not letting them access online features, which is a big problem in a game revolving around multiplayer above all else.
In a post to their official forums and on social media, Tripwire representatives have acknowledged that many players trying to enjoy Killing Floor 2 after their free download are having significant trouble. Tripwire regularly updates the game with new weapons, new maps, and newly adorned zombified foes to blast apart with all manner of firearms. The latest update, entitled "Perilous Plunder", takes the action underwater with diver enemies that wouldn't look out of place in Rapture. Of course, it's not just the standard undead in opposition here, it's all manner of fanciful freaks. Originating in 2016 on PC before branching out to PlayStation 4, Killing Floor 2 is an attempt to capitalize and expand on the popularity of Call of Duty's off the wall Zombies mode. For Killing Floor 2, it's also a test of a new set of servers, as the game's previous PC release on Steam integrated Valve's networking tools and other features exclusive to the platform. For any online game, a free giveaway can mean tons of new players and a stress test for your existing servers. Alongside Lifeless Planet and The Escapists 2, Tripwire Interactive's popular zombie shooter hit the Epic Store as a freebie for one week only.
